Baby K'Tan baby carrier review

Baby Carrier Model: Baby K’Tan Solid Cotton Baby Carrier
Carrier Type: “A wrap without all the wrapping” — double-pouch style carrier
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5

Introduction

When my first son was born, I found that baby wearing helped me calm him when he became overstimulated. It also allowed me to be hands-free for light housework and grocery shopping. I started with a ring sling, switched to a pouch sling, and later used a soft structured carrier and backpack carrier for hiking.

I knew baby wearing would be even more important with my second baby. While I loved the trim design of my pouch sling, I wanted something that distributed the baby’s weight more evenly over both shoulders. The Baby K’Tan was exactly the sort of solution I had been looking for.

How does this carrier compare to other carriers?

Ring slings and pouch slings are simple and offer different carry positions, but I found that putting the weight on one shoulder became uncomfortable with extended use. Traditional wraps distribute weight more evenly, but I wanted something quicker and easier to put on. Soft structured carriers were comfortable but bulkier to pack or wear under a jacket.

The Baby K’Tan offered a different compromise: a wrap-like design without having to tie a long piece of fabric. Because it is sized, getting the correct size is important.

What do I love about this carrier?

Simple and Supportive

The Baby K’Tan is a blend of sling, wrap and structured-carrier ideas. Its double-loop design and support band helped distribute weight across my back and shoulders. I found it much more comfortable than my slings.

I also felt that baby was more secure than in my single pouch sling, which truly freed both hands.

Newborn Use

With carriers I had tried previously, I sometimes found it difficult to get a comfortable newborn position while keeping baby’s airway clear. I found the K’Tan easier to position securely while keeping baby close.

Easy to Pack

I loved that it packed down small enough for my diaper bag. For travel, having two hands free for luggage while carrying something less bulky than a structured carrier was especially useful.

Easy Care and Breathable Fabric

The cotton knit carrier was machine washable, dried quickly and felt breathable. That was particularly useful because my baby tended to run warm.

Flexibility

The carrier offered multiple carrying positions as a baby grew. At the time I wrote the original review, my son was still a newborn, so my experience was primarily with newborn use rather than every available position.

Would I recommend it to a friend?

I loved the Baby K’Tan carrier. Its simplicity and flexibility made it an excellent option for parents interested in baby wearing without learning to tie a traditional wrap.

What would I change?

There wasn’t much I wanted to change about the basic design. At the time, I mainly wished there were more fabric and print choices.
